Acute severe hepatitis of unknown etiology in children: A mini-review

The emergence of acute, severe non hepA–E hepatitis unknown etiology (ASHUE) has attracted global concern owing to the very young age patients and its etiology. Although this condition been linked several possible causes, including viral infection, drugs and/or toxin exposure, exact cause remains unknown; makes treatment recommendation difficult. In review, we summarize recent updates on clinical manifestations, complemented with laboratory results, case numbers distribution other epidemiological characteristics, etiologies. We also provide proposed actions that could be undertaken control prevent further spread hepatitis. Since many etiological pathological aspects acute remain unclear, research is needed minimize impact disease.
